Bridesmaids Review

When a screen is packed out, you know the film is going to be good and last night there wasn’t a spare seat in the screening of Bridesmaids.

Described as “the female Hangover”, Bridesmaids is witty, fun and truly hilarious. Kristen Wiig plays Annie, a middle-aged woman who’s reached rock bottom in her life yet now has to take on the role of Maid of Honour at her best friend Lillian’s (Maya Rudolph) wedding. After meeting the bridesmaids, (Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) the film really comes into its own. The six women provide the audience with laugh after laugh from beginning to end.

Although Bridesmaids has faced prejudice due to the fact that it is written by women, the main characters are women and (shock horror) women are the lead comedians, there is no need to assume that it is a female only film. Be ready for stomach-turning scenes to rival those of male lead films such as American Pie or Jackass but do not expect simply a “female version” of said films. Bridesmaids is a comedy in its own right and a hilarious one at that. Full of laugh out loud moments and emotive scenes, Bridesmaids is a must see for anyone looking for a fun, witty and extremely entertaining film.
